Hard Knocks Olympian and KidSport Calgary Cheque Presentation & Press Conference

01 Apr 2021

Ari Taub, CEO of Hard Knocks Fighting and former Olympic Wrestler, knows the financial challenges for athletes wanting to compete around the globe. That's why Taub and his company Hard Knocks Fighting are working hard to support the growth of local sport and community organizations through their live MMA event shows. Up to this point, over $90,000 has been raised at Hard Knocks Fighting events and donated directly to local sport organizations and athletes, as well as community organizations like the Lions Club.

At the last Calgary event in May, a VIP table was auctioned off and $2000 was raised for Carol Huynh (2008 Olympic Champion) and Leah Callahan. Huynh and Callahan, former teammates of Taub's, are headed to the 2012 Olympics this summer in London. The funds will help offset the cost of training and preparation for the athletes. Variperm Ltd. and Grant Production Testing purchased the auctioned table.

At the same event in May, Hard Knocks Fighting launched their partnership with local charity KidSport Calgary. A cheque for $4500 raised through auctions at the HK January event was presented and further efforts to raise money for KidSport took place. An on-air radio auction for a VIP table facilitated by the Fan 960 led up to the event and a signed Jarome Iginla jersey was auctioned live. An additional $1600 was raised for KidSport Calgary -- who notes that MMA is one of the fastest growing sports amongst the 50 different organized sport activities supported by KidSport Calgary sport registration fee grants. The Blind Monk Pub [Brett Greenslade] and Canadian Digital [James McDonnell] bought the auctioned items.

A press conference for the presentations of the cheques was held at Spolumbo's on Friday, June 22 at 2PM. Ari Taub, CEO of Hard Knocks, Hard Knocks representatives, KidSport representatives,Carol Huyhn, and Leah Callahan were in attendance.
